JAMES BROAD was a British singer, guitarist and songwriter of the London band Silver Sun, which he co-founded in 1995.

(Scroll down for English translation) The Art of Silver SunをCandy Jarから出版します。 Sun E.P. Lava、Golden Skin、Last Day、 Getting it Together in the Country、Trickle Down、 Pixie Pixie、 Sharks、Wonderful、 Immediate、Photographですね。 The Art of Silver Sun本はどのようなものになりますか? English #

A Lick and A Promise
When A Lick and A Promise was released in Japan on the Rallye Label, I interviewed James for their website in April 2014. The page no longer exists but you can still look at it via the link above. But I thought I'd upload the original email conversation so here goes: 1. Congratulations on your 5th album and it's finally out in CD format! Vinyl is making a comeback these days, but are you a vinyl person or you like CDs or download? What is your preferred method of listening to music lately? I love vinyl and I still have quite a bit lurking around the house. But I'm afraid I don't listen to it much. My daughter is the main player of vinyl as she has all my wife's childhood records to fiddle with now. I just don't let her use my record player to play them. She has to use the shitty one. There's no point me releasing stuff on vinyl as all my music these days is made on my mac. No point going from digital to analogue....I listen to music on Spotify these days...... 2. I know you mentioned before that A Lick and a Promise is a compilation of songs rather than an album, but what is an album to you? An album to me is a historical document of a time and place in the musician's life combined with a time & place in the listener's life. 3. Which song(s) are you particularly fond of on A Lick and a Promise? And why? I like the song Pixelvision. I recorded it ages ago and I have no idea what chords I played. And I can't work them out now. If anyone can help on that I would be very grateful. 4. What inspires you to write songs? What is your song writing method? Other songs inspire me. Mainly great songwriters. Neil Finn is someone who has inspired me probably more than anyone else. He's the best. I write almost exclusively by thinking of a good title, writing the lyrics and then doing the music. I have never ever 'jammed'. I'd like to one day. It sounds exciting. I can only write songs when I'm feeling like it. I can't do it under any pressure whatsoever. Plus - I love watching TV so I usually prefer to do that..... 5. What kind of music are you into lately? What was the last album you bought? Corsicana Lemonade by White Denim. I listen to a lot of different stuff from jazz to thrash metal. It really depends on my mood. I recently got obsessed with the song Try by Pink. Anything can set me off. 6. It's the 20th anniversary of Britpop and some people seem to regard Silver Sun as a Britpop band. Did you feel a part of Britpop at all back then? Only in so much as that was the sort of stuff that was around when we were first getting signed etc. I personally was much more inspired by Teenage Fanclub, Weezer, Frank Black, Juliana Hatfield, The Muffs –basically everything that was American. The production was so much better than the weedy sound that many UK bands had at the time. That said - britpop had some brilliant songs - many of which are rather forgotten now - like I Want You by Salad, That's Nice by Minty and Bleed by Catatonia. 7. What about the term Powerpop? Do you see yourself a powerpop act? I don't know what that really means but I guess if it means poppy songs with a bit of oomph in them - then that's exactly what we are. It comes from drinking too much coffee and having a 5 second attention span. 8. You haven't played live for a while. Would you consider doing some gigs? I'd like to. But I now live 250 miles from 50% of the rest of the band so it's hard to get it together. Plus - it's a right pain in the arse. If I could be teleported onto the stage at the exact moment the gig starts without having to set up, soundcheck, clear up, rehearse, sit in a shitty smelly dressing room etc. That would be OK. 9. Will you continue to record as Silver Sun for the foreseeable future? Would you record under a different name like you sort of did with The Bullets? Yes - I may as well use Silver Sun now. #
